My Opinions on Batman Are Informed By 400 Years of Black Personhood.

This is the rare occasion where I feed a troll. I might as well do it in style.

A scene from Batman: War on Crime by Alex Ross.

Today, a commenter named R.E.A.L Human Rights posted a long response to my story, DC Comics Should Heed the Prophecy that is the Bubbling Black Backlash Against Batman. I’m convinced this person is a troll. Regardless, I responded as his comments allowed me to flesh out several of the arguments I made in the piece.

Black writers — I fell for the trap of responding to an unprincipled and weak argument. In the future, I need to make sure I only respond to people who have counters against both my premises and evidence. This commenter responded to the former without engaging with the latter, which means that he did not engage in any analysis that 400 years of Black personhood has developed in this nation.

Let’s get it on as I take his claims and give my counters.

“Hal Harris — let’s start with your basic question: “What would Batman do to Eric Garner?” You already know the answer. And the question is a strawman about a fictional character, designed to divide and spread hate.”
